When there’s a wildfire, hurricane, earthquake or tsunami, we see survivors interviewed, stories on pets and heartbreaking pictures of children. Relief agencies mobilize along with physicians, nurses and other caregivers. What are the stories behind the pictures? How do health professionals give children the chance to heal and develop their full potential?
Dr. Dana Braner, physician-in-chief at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, has been caring for critically ill infants and children as the medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit. He has also volunteered for international disaster and relief missions in Indonesia, Honduras, New Orleans and Haiti among others.
A member of the OR2 Disaster Assistance Team, the National Disaster Medical Service MAC team and a volunteer Angel Flight pilot, Dr. Braner will share his experiences and insights.
